is the local news much more depressing to watch than the "world news"? since world news is reporting on oil companies or some war in some far off region …how the local news is more depressing or not and how compares in depressing stories between USA and Britain and why?

please give explain and give any examples if you can

thanks for your answers!

First off, you have to admit that stories are much more likely to make local/international news if it’s something bad. Of course there are stories about achievements and other positive news such as the Royal Wedding, but readers and viewers tend to be more interested in the bad news because those can negatively affect their future.

I would say that international news is more depressing right now. Many countries in the Middle East are staging protests against the government, so most of the action is there. And while they are fighting for good causes, it’s still depressing because lives are being lost and everything. Also, Japan is still recovering from the earthquake damage. So I would say that world news is more depressing at the moment than local British or American news.

Typical local News Headlines in Britan right now:
Barcelona beating Manchester to win Champions League http://bbc.in/mGxTHP
Problems with a rail line http://bbc.in/ksYjBA
Measles epidemic in Britan http://bit.ly/msXzJb

Typical local news headlines in USA right now:
National Basketball Association finals http://bit.ly/kr8i6v
Tornadoes that have killed over 500 people this year http://bo.st/juTLKe
Crime and the unemployment rate http://on.wsj.com/jMBE1s

I would say that Britain and America’s stories are both not that harsh, but since the tornadoes are going on in the southern US, that might be slightly more depressing.
